In March 2021, we all completed the national 10-yearly Census, and one of the questions asked was: which sex you are, female or male? But for the first time in the history of the Census it then went on to ask a voluntary question “Is the gender you identify with the same as your sex registered at birth?”
Most male-bodied people are happy to use the gender category man, and most females use woman, but some people are not comfortable with these binary-gendered terms, and they will have inserted on the Census something else, for example, trans woman, trans man, genderfluid, non-binary, gender queer, agender, pangender, gender diverse, and many many more.
These gender diverse people work for you now and many will be keeping their true gender identity a secret because of the fear of ridicule, abuse, harassment and victimisation at work.
In this two-hour presentation, I will uncover the real meaning of the word gender and why it is incorrectly used as a synonym for sex in modern society, I will show that there are more gender categories than just binary man or woman, and that many cultures around the world historically have 3 or more gender categories.
I will identify what gender identity means and why a person does or does not feel it. I will talk about the science of gender, including the concept of female and male brains, I will look at the UK laws that allow for people to legally express their gendered authentic selves.
I will identify gender authenticity principles and management techniques that you can adopt in your place of work, embedding them into processes and policies that will enable you and your workforce to firstly accept and respect gender diverse people, and secondly how to enhance and maximise their productivity and your profitability.

Transgender Awareness Presenter
Are you looking for a professionally trained, high quality presenter and speaker to deliver educational transgender and gender identity presentations to corporate Equality and Diversity training days and other corporate events?
The video is an example of the type of presentation I deliver.
My presentations focus on the four aspects of our Western society that validate the existence of trans people and trans lives, which I describe as the Four Pillars of Gender Validation: history, science, culture and law. The presentations are deliberately light-hearted because within the workplace only a small segment of people have a natural interest in transgender issues, and my presentations are designed to entice them to be interested by appealing to their sense of humour and sense of curiosity.
How I work
I specialise in researching up to date books and scientific papers on transgender and gender identity issues, see Presentation Material, and converting them into educational, easy to understand, interesting and entertaining presentations in layman’s language from small to very large audiences .
I use media such as powerpoint slides and photographs, but my key communication tool is my ability to use emotion, elocution and an evocative delivery to entice the audience.
I am a professional Presenter and Public speaker having learnt my presentation skills in my 25-year army career, including the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst and Army Staff College. I retired in the rank of major.
I have two engineering degrees, a BSc and MSc, and during my engineering career was a Chartered Engineer.
For 3 years I was the Dorset Area Coordinator for the transgender support charity, Chrysalis (now Beyond Reflections), including setting up and managing their Bournemouth transgender support group.
I have given transgender awareness presentations, customised for the particular learning outcome, to over 3000 people and a variety of companies, councils, charities, hospitals and prisons in the south (and one in Liverpool!).
I am a member of Wessex Crown Prosecution Service Hate Crime Scrutiny panel, a transgender support group facilitator for a local prison, and the only transgender Governor for Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust.
